Construction Nearby? Check Your Sewer Line
We’ve noticed a major increase in underground utility construction in Merced and Atwater, including
microtrenching and directional boring (HDD). Older sewer lines can already have weak points—roots, offsets, brittle materials, or bellies—and nearby activity can turn a minor issue into an unexpected backup.
MCM Plumbing® is offering a one-time neighborhood reduced-rate main line cleaning + camera inspection
so homeowners can clean, inspect, and document their sewer line as a long-term investment for their property.
- Main line cleaning from an accessible cleanout (when possible)
- HD sewer camera inspection + sewer locating
- Video recording available
- Licensed A-General Engineering, C-36 Plumbing, and C-34 Pipeline Contractor

Warning Signs of a Main Line Issue
If you notice any of the following, it’s time to have the line checked:
- Slow or bubbling toilets
- Multiple drains backing up at once
- Sewage coming up in a shower or tub
- Water coming out of an exterior cleanout
- Strong sewer odor inside or outside
How This Inspection Works
First, we locate a cleanout or another safe access point. Next, we clear the line if needed and run a waterproof HD camera through the sewer. The camera streams live video so we can identify the condition of the pipe and pinpoint issues. When necessary, we use locating equipment to mark the location of concerns above ground.
What We Look For During the Camera Inspection
Our inspection shows what is wrong and where it sits. Common findings include:
- Root intrusion: Roots grow into joints and restrict flow.
- Offsets / separations: Misaligned joints can catch debris and cause recurring clogs.
- Cracks / breaks: We document the exact location for targeted repairs.
- Belly / low spots: Standing water can lead to repeated blockages.
- Buildup / obstructions: Grease, sludge, and debris that restrict flow.
If Construction-Related Impacts Are Identified
Cause can’t be determined without clearing and camera inspection. If we identify conditions that may be related to nearby construction activity, we can provide camera video and locating information to help document the issue and support the proper repair process through the responsible project team.
